Lately we’ve been spending a lot of time improving our shopping cart for Detailed Image. When we launched the site back in September our primary goals were to get the site indexed properly and to automate the back-end shipping process. We built the cart from scratch in only a few months, so there were obviously things that were neglected. I’ve been going back and cleaning up code, fixing all of the minor bugs and inconveniences, and programming features like an affiliate program (soon to launch).
We also rushed the design of the site. It served its purpose and looked good, but certainly was lacking from where we wanted it to be. Yesterday Mike did an amazing redesign and we launched it last night. There are a lot of subtleties, but those are what makes the improvement so great. It’s the difference between a good design and a great design, and Mike is quickly becoming a great designer by dedicating himself to becoming an expert in CSS and in Photoshop. It’s awesome to see how much better he is than even a few months ago. He’s taken over that role within the company and really embraced it, which is great for us…it was something we were really lacking.
